Just joined this forum. Am not new to the hobby. Started with a nitro-power TT Raptor V2 helicopter that I assembled from zero ground up back in 2005 with the help of avid hobbyist specializing on this model. Took me 3 months to assemble the size 500 helicopter done on days off and on weekends. Never had the chance to fly the helicopter as my job schedule took me away from the hobby. It is still stored and probably may not fly at all unless I go back to being an AMA member. This nitro heli can only be flown in an insured flying field because of its large footprint. Furthermore, it is equipped with 72 MHZ fixed frequency transmitter and receiver that is obsolete by today's standards. My experience in rotary and fixed wings started from RealFlights simulator where I learned orientation, hovering, taking off and landing. However, what I learned from true actual flight is quite different from simulators. Without any one's advise I started flying Walkera helicopters 2 years ago, starting with the
Genius FP, CP, Super CP, Mini-CP, V120D02S, V450D03, Lady Bird, and in the process collected a bunch of Devo transmitters that I no longer need except for one 7e and 8S that I have managed to upgrade using the Deviation Firmware that enables me to use the transmitters to fly other aircrafts using different receiver protocols like DSMX, of Spektrum and FAAST of Futaba. I have other Blade helis that are flying using my Devo8S with the upgraded firmware.
I am only an intermediate flyer. I still have to learn 3D flying that I am going to learn since I am retired and have more time to spend on this hobby. I have purchased parts online from different suppliers and most recently from this hobby shop as well as repaired, upgraded my Walkera's and learned to program them according to my flying style thanks to You Tube videos from other hobbyists who regularly post videos related to Walkera helicopters.
I intend to post my experience with different models up to the size 450 including the incredible Deviation firmware upgrade that can be used on any 6 channel up Devo and non-Devo transmitters.
