My main gear is stuck to the main shaft since I am unable to remove the pin that connects the two, and this is stopping my from switching out the striped A tail gear. Any suggestion on how to remove it? It's VERY hard to simply pull out, my dad couldn't even do it.

Those pins are easier to push out than to pull out. Try to position your pliers to push on one side of the pin but to not cover the exit hole on the other. Once you get it pushed 1/2 way through THEN you can pull it out.

Locking needle-nose vise grip or even a side-cutter are useful for pulling that little rascal. Pretty much a sacrificial activity: pin gets pretty chewed up either way. Time for new ones with each pulling, I suspect. My limited experience...
Supporting the main gear without deforming it in the process is a little tricky, as well.
