Just a quick question, I just received my Walkera Genius CP yesterday and I have no delusion about being able to fly this just yet as I am stepping up from the Syma 107G coaxial helis. But on average how long would you say it takes to learn how to hover/fly the Genius CP? I am very much in the take off and immediately crash stage. While it is frustrating, I am not discouraged as I know it will take time. I imagine I will be ordering replacement parts soon too! Thanks, Tim

To guesstimate how long it will take, really depends on the person. Understanding the differences in FP and CP heli's and how quickly you can adapt. CP heli's in general have much greater headspeeds than FP or Coaxial's do. This makes them much more responsive to your inputs. Also, the way they fly is very different, as well. I am a huge proponent of simulators and I encourage anyone moving up to a CP heli to invest in one. It could potentially save you hundreds of dollars in repairs. When I bought my V200D03 as my first CP heli, I knew there was going to be a huge difference. I bought a Phoenix sim and practiced flying the T-Rex-250 3G 3 to 5 times a day, 6 or 7 days a week. I had over 100hrs logged in on the T-Rex in approx 2 months before I ever flew my V200. I know I saved myself a lot of money in repairs.

I appreciate the advice and I think I am going to need to look into a simulator. In the meantime I will continue to take baby steps with the Genius CP. Thanks.

I will make a suggestion, if you have not already done this. You can switch your Genius CP from 3-Axis to 6-Axis mode and visa-versa. I would suggest flying it in 6-Axis mode. This wil make the heli a little more stable and a little easier to fly. Then, after you get comfortable with that, switch back to 3-axis mode.
You can also tame the heli down by setting your D/R's to 80% and set your Expo's to +20. This will also make it a little easier to fly.

Thank you for the advice. I will play with those settings as you suggested. However in the meantime I am waiting on a new frame, I have already busted mine. I am thinking I should have ordered 2. I broke the frame in 3 places, however as a testimony to the toughness of the Genius CP, it took some pretty good abuse before it finally broke. I smoked it pretty hard against the walls and the concrete floor and it took it a while before it actually really broke and I am surprised it lasted as long as it did. Once I have it repaired I am going to find a larger space to practice in, I do not recommend basements, there is just not enough room especially if you are a newbie.
Along these notes does anyone have any good instructions or advice on how to change the frame on the Genius CP. I think I can figure it out but if someone with some experience in doing this has some good advice I would appreciate it. Thanks!

That's funny! So the little bird can take a beating huh? I don't own a Genius, but I do own a Mini CP. They are very similar. However, I have not had to replace the frame on mine. I would suggest you download the Exploded diagram for the Genius. These diagrams help me tremendously when doing any repair work on my heli's. Maybe someone with a Genius will chime in and give you some helpful tips? walkerahelicoptersupply.com/pages/Genius-cp-exploded-parts-diagram

One o' them little #000 magnetized Phillips screwdrivers really comes in handy, too. Dave the parts dude might be able to sell a few of 'em if he had a "tools" section! ;-)

I have played with my Genius CP some but I am still needing to get the Tx programed right for it. SInce I got my Ladybird, Space Walker and Scorpion I have not spent much time with my Genius CP. Sorry I don't have much to offer here. I have made the changes Majic1 has suggested but I haven'spent any time using them yet.

I have jumped back to playing with my Genius again for a while. I made the changes suggested and it does help a lot. There is thread another forum that talks about the issues with the 6 axis gyro and how to build a new mount and fix the problem. Either mine doesn't have the issue or Walkera resolved it as 6 axis on mine is fantastic. Also, there is a link to how to program the Devo 7 (I think that is right Tx) for Genius here is a link www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1325037&page=2 that I started with. This gives you a good setup for Genius CP as a very stable FP. As I found out very painfully, never and I repeat never flip the FW switch using this setup to the #2 position while it is in the air. Slams it to the ground at about full throttle since I was at very low throttle setting for low hoover in #0 position. Then make the changes Magic1 suggests. Very nice hoover once trim is done. As for strength, the landing gear is week. One thing that helps is to put some hot glue at the bending points on it. I really think the Genius electronic on the Mini CP frame is the best solution Walkera has at this size and price point. Mine hasn't broke yet but it gets so out of alignment from hitting the ground, walls driveway whatever that one of these days it will break when I am trying to straighten it out. Good luck. Dale
