If you are like me you like to have your electronic "stuff" at the latest and greatest revision level so after finding that my brand new Devo 10 was not at the latest level so I played with the upgrading process and made a few discoveries I thought I would pass on to anyone wanting to do the same. There are different files that you can get from Walkera AFTER you have created an account with them. It is easy and I have not found any adverse side-affects from doing that.
)You will need the USB cable that has a standard USB connector on one end to plug into the PC and the smaller USB connector on the other end to plug into your Tx. This is a standard USB type cable as any time I want to do this I just grab one off my work desk that has the correct ends without worrying about if it is the "Official one". There is a very different cable needed if you want to upgrade your Rx firmware and I am not sure where you buy that except from Walkera in China. Anyone else know where the UP02 cable can be purchased from?
)Go to walkera.com/en1/info.jsp?id=114 for the various downloads needed.
)There is a link at the bottom of the page to go to the English version of the radio_soft upgrade tool for your PC as well as other upgrades for different Tx's and models.
)You have to download and install the UP02 Upgrade Tools to on your PC to facilitate the process.
)I selected the Devo 10 box to get to the latest firmware and library for the Devo 10. It is firmware version 0.5 and library version .2. I found you had to upgrade both and in a specific order to successfully upgrade your Tx. I am not sure what the difference is between the 10mw and the 100mw files are but I use the 10mw as the power output on my Devo 10 is 10mw. May not be related but that is what I used and it worked.
6) the files are "zip" and must be uncompressed. This process depends on what version of Windows you have but it is pretty straightforward. I have Windows 7 and just double click the link.
)I save the file to my desktop but that is not required just how I do it.
)There are two files here; DEVO-10 Fw v0.5B.dfu and DEVO-10 Lib v0.2dfu. I assume that the other Devo Tx's use the same file structure but I don't know. The upgrades are Tx specific so don't try to upgrade the Devo 10 with a Devo 8 version. I am not sure if the tool will even try that if you told it to.
)Start the PC program Devention Upgrade Tools>DfuSe USB Upgrade.
)Connect the cable to the Tx and the PC.
)While powering on the TX hold down the ext button on the front of the Tx. You get a strange screen with both Chinese and English and a progress bar (no light) that makes you think something is happening but it isn't - at least not yet.
)Use the PC tool to install the new version of the library and firmware.
)The key here is that the order of install seems to be critical. I had to upgrade the Library first and then the Firmware second. The UP02 Tool did not give me an error but the Devo 10>System Menu>About indicated there was an error of some kind. Also, many of the programming items did not make since as the wording on the screen didn't seem to match what the function was that I was trying to set.
)Exit the UP02 program and power off the TX. Disconnect the cable and you are done.
)To verify your upgrade on the Tx select the System Menus>About and it should indicate that the Tx has Software Ver 0.5B and Library Ver 0.2.
Your are done.
